Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage?

Multiply the base number by the percentage expressed as a decimal. 20% of 250 = 250 × 0.20 = 50.

What's the difference between percent change and percentage points?

A move from 10% to 15% is an increase of 5 percentage points, but a 50% relative increase. Confusing them changes the magnitude of a change by 10× in some cases.
